What an ODT file looks like once FileConcat has read it
A sample policy page. The heading, the numbered list and the page footer come through; the picture is named, not described.
<file path="leave-policy.odt" language="odt"><![CDATA[ # Leave policy Everyone gets 25 days of paid leave a year, plus public holidays. 1. Ask your manager at least two weeks ahead. 2. Up to five unused days carry over to next year. 3. Sick leave is separate and does not count against the 25. [Image: img1.png] --- Page footer --- Staff handbook, section 4 ]]></file>
Sample OpenDocument file, read by FileConcat 2.9.
What comes through, and what does not
In the text
- The text, with its page headers and footers. An OpenDocument list item keeps its number or bullet, and an OpenDocument chart comes through as a table of its data. An OpenDocument form field comes through as its value and a check box as [x] or [ ]. Hidden text is left out.
Not read
- Pictures and the charts in an RTF file are not described.
199 real files. markitdown does not read it.
Forty documents, one file to paste
Drop a folder of OpenDocument files and they come back as one text file, each under its own name, with a token count for the whole set. An assistant that caps attachments counts it as one.
handbook/ code-of-conduct.odt expenses.odt leave-policy.odt onboarding.odt

Common questions
Is my document uploaded to a server?
Not to us. FileConcat reads the document in your browser and there is no account to create. The only upload is the one you choose to make, when you paste or attach the text at your assistant.
Does it read form fields and check boxes?
Yes. A form field comes through as its value and a check box as [x] or [ ]. Hidden text is left out.
Does a chart come through?
A chart made in the document does, as a table of its data. A picture is named, not described, so a number that exists only in a picture is not in the text.
Can I get plain text without tags?
Yes. Set Format to Plain before you copy or download. The tags go, and each file sits between two rules with its name, under a short summary and the file list.
Can I convert many ODT files at once?
Yes. Drop several files or a whole folder. They come back as one text file with each document under its own name, so an assistant that limits attachments takes them as one.
