Get past the Gemini Gems file limit.

A Gem holds only a handful of knowledge files, so you end up choosing which few to keep. Drop the whole folder here instead. Everything, even the PDFs, is read in your browser and packed into one file, so all your reference documents take a single knowledge slot.

Everything for your Gem, read in a second.

Stop choosing which ten to keep.

With only a handful of knowledge slots, a Gem forces you to leave documents out. One combined file changes the math: however many documents you started with, the Gem sees them as a single knowledge file, so nothing gets cut and the slots stay free.

A file tree at the top keeps every document labeled

Where Gemini stops you.

Both a Gem and a single prompt hold you to about ten files. One combined file stays under either cap, because it is one file no matter how many documents went into it.

From a full folder to one Gem file.

  1. 1

    Drop the whole folder

Drag in every document you want the Gem to know. Subfolders come along, and you can add a repo or a link too.

  2. 2

    It reads everything here

PDFs, Word, Excel, and notes are turned into text in this tab, with a file tree at the top. Nothing is uploaded.

  3. 3

Add the one file to your Gem

Upload the single file as the Gem's knowledge, and it draws on the whole set from one slot in every conversation.

Eighteen documents, one Gem file.

A folder that would blow past the knowledge cap goes in. A single file comes out, labeled as documents so the Gem reads it as one set, not as source code.

One slot, the whole set

Whether it is five documents or fifty, the combined file counts as one knowledge file. The Gem reads it as a single labeled set and refers to the whole thing in every reply.

Common questions.

How many files can I add to a Gemini Gem?
A Gem holds about 10 knowledge files. Combining your reference documents into one file means the whole set takes a single knowledge slot, so you are no longer picking which ten to keep.
Does combining files count as one knowledge file?
Yes. FileConcat returns a single file, so a folder of documents becomes one knowledge file the Gem can draw on, with a file tree that keeps every document labeled and in order.
What about the file limit in the Gemini app itself?
When you attach files to a single Gemini prompt you are also capped at around 10 files. One combined file works there too, so a large set goes in as a single attachment.
Can a Gem read the PDFs and Word documents inside the combined file?
Yes. FileConcat pulls the text out of PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in your browser and writes it into one plain-text file the Gem reads directly, without you converting anything first.
Are my documents uploaded to a server?
No. Every file, including the PDFs and Office documents, is read in your browser tab. Nothing is sent, nothing is stored, and there is no account to create.
